What:
Liz de Jager’s launch for Banished
Where:
The Gallery, Foyles
When:
Thursday 27th February
I sent Liz a quick tweet to wish her a happy blog birthday on Thursday morning and upon realising I was in London, I was invited to her launch that evening! It just so happened that I had been reading Banished on my commute and had it with me in my bag to get signed.
I got to Foyles a little early
and had a quick browse in the YA section because I just can’t help myself. I
even promised myself I could buy myself a copy of The Spectacular Now after the event, which I actually forgot about
in all of the excitement...
Eventually, I trudged upstairs
and found loads of people already there, but I couldn’t see Liz anywhere! I got
to have a chat with the lovely Kate who words in the YA section who I talk to
on Twitter a lot (@kateweasel) and then some bloggers started to arrive! There
was Sarah from Feeling Fictional,
Lucy from Choose YA, Bella from CheezyFeet Books, Cecily from
Cic Loves Books. I didn’t
get to chat with all of them, but there were also quite a few authors in
attendance! Tamsyn Murray, Sarwat Chadda, Non Pratt, James Dawson, Tom Pollock,
Marie-Louise Jensen, Jonathon Mayhew and Steve Feasy. There was also the lovely
Sarah (@essjay) and Liz’s agent Juliet Mushens. I reacted a little bit like
spotting a celeb when I saw Juliet and all I could think was that she looked
exactly like her Twitter profile picture!
We mingled for a good while
munching on Banished biscuits and
posh, weirdly favoured popcorn (cheese popcorn: so odd) and then we got our
books signed. It was so cool to see Liz sitting at a signing table with piles
of her book on each side of her. She wrote me a lovely message in mine.
As I had to be back in London
for work the next day I was only able to stay until about eight but I had a
lovely time. I rarely feel as relaxed and at home as I do in a room full of
bookish people!
Sorry about the lack of
pictures in this post; I’m lame and forgot to take any...
Verdict:
10/10
If you haven’t bought and
devoured banished already, you really
need to go and do so right now. Now. Shoo.

I'm still not convinced that cheese flavoured popcorn is a good idea but it was definitely a great event! It was great to see you! :)
ReplyDeleteI don't think I tried the cheese popcorn! It sounds interesting though lol. It was lovely to see you & I was so proud of Liz seeing her up there signing all those books :-)
ReplyDeleteCheese popcorn? :o
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad the launch was brilliant!
Sounds like you had an amazing time! Sad that I missed the chance to get together; damn conflicting events :(
ReplyDeleteHow lucky that you were in London that night and were able to go to this! I still feel really emotional and proud of Liz for everything she's accomplished!
