Letterbox Love #40

Letterbox Love all of the lovely, lovely books I’ve gotten in the post, bought and everything else. Summaries are taken from the cover, or Amazon/NetGalley/Goodreads in the case of e-books, unless otherwise stated. Hosted by Narratively Speaking.

For review:

The Rain, Virginia Bergin (e-proof)

One minute sixteen-year-old Ruby Morris is having her first proper snog with Caspar McCloud in a hot tub, and the next she’s being bundled inside the house, dripping wet, cold and in her underwear. As she and Caspar shiver in the kitchen, it starts to rain. They turn on the radio to hear panicked voices – ‘It’s in the rain...it’s in the rain...’ That was two weeks ago, and now Ruby is totally alone. People weren’t prepared for the rain, got caught in it, didn’t realise that you couldn’t drink water from the taps either.  Even a drip of rain would infect your blood, and eat you from the inside out. Ruby knows she has to get to London to find her dad, but she doesn’t know where to start... After rescuing all the neighbourhood dogs, Ruby sets off on a journey that will take her the length of the country – surviving in the only way she knows how.

I thought I was over dysoptian/post-apocalyptic novels, but this sounds so original and brilliant! Thanks Macmillan and NetGalley!

Keep the Faith, Candy Harper (e-proof)

Get ready for boy dilemmas, friendship dramas and madcap grannies – Faith is back!

Will Faith make up her mind between the gorgeous Finn and the lovely Ethan and manage to get herself a real-life boyfriend?

Will Mrs Cox finally get off her case and recognise Faith’s true genius?

Will Faith’s family learn how to be normal, non-embarrassing people?

Will Faith and her BFFs beat the world record for the number of biscuits eaten in a minute?

All these questions and more will be answered in the hilarious next instalment of this brilliant new series from Candy Harper!

Yay, I love this series! Thanks S&S and NetGalley!

The Wilderness, CJ Harper (paperback)

After exposing the shocking truth about the leadership, Blake and Kay have lost everything and are running for their lives.

The only place they’ll be safe is in the wilderness – a wasteland that the forgotten, mutilated and criminal call home. Here, in an abandoned city, Blake and Kay find the Resistance, a group that wants to bring down the leadership as much as they do.

But the Resistance aren’t what they seem, and as Blake and Kay uncover their brutal secrets, they realise that the fight for truth and justice is going to be bloodier and harder than they ever imagined...

I really enjoyed book one, The Disappeared, so I hope I get around to this soon! Thanks S&S!

Storm, Brigid Kemmerer (paperback)

Secrets are hard to keep when your life’s at stake.

Becca Chandler is suddenly getting all the guys; all the ones she doesn’t want. When she saves Chris Merrick during a fight, everything is about to change. Chris is different from the guys at school...really different. He can control water just like his brothers can control fire, wind, and earth. The brothers are powerful and dangerous. And now that Becca knows the truth, so is she.

When the mysterious new kid, Hunter, turns up, Becca thinks she can trust him. But when he goes head-to-head with Chris, Becca’s left wondering who’s hiding the most dangerous truth of all.

Thanks Much-In-Little!

Bought:

The Bane Chronicles 10: The Course of True Love (and First Dates), Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan

When Magnus Bane, warlock, meets Alec Lightwood, Shadowhunter, sparks fly. And what happens on their first date lights a flame...

I’m sad to see this novella series end, but I am looking forward to seeing more and Alec and Magnus’s relationship.

I also bought myself the gorgeous Penguin Clothbound Classics edition of Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen – isn’t it gorgeous?! I’m starting to collect them.

The Spectacular Now, Tim Tharp (paperback)

Sutter’s the guy you want at your party. He’ll get everyone dancing. He’ll get everyone in your parents’ pool. He has no plans for university and will probably end up folding men’s shirts for a living. But right now life’s pretty fabuloso.
Until he meets Aimee. Aimee’s clueless. Aimee is a social disaster. Aimee needs help. It’s up to Sutter to show her a splendiferous time and then let her go.

But Aimee’s not like other girls and before long he’s in way over his head. For the first time in his life, he has the power to make a difference in someone else’s life – or ruin it forever.

This sounds like my perfect novel. I hope it is.

Desert Tales, Melissa Marr (paperback)

Return to the world of Melissa Marr’s bestselling and discover how the events of Wicked Lovely set a different faery tale in motion.

The Mojave Desert was a million miles away from the plots and schemes of the faery courts – and that’s exactly why Rika chose it as her home. The once-mortal faery retreated to the desert’s isolation after decades of carrying winter’s curse inside her body. But her seclusion – and the freedom of the desert fey – are threatened by the Summer King’s newfound strength. And when the manipulations of her trickster friend, Sionnach, thrust Rika into a new romance, she finds new power within herself – and a new desire to help Sionnach protect the desert fey and mortals alike. The time for hiding is over.

Originally presented as a manga series and now available for the first time as a standalone novel, Desert Tales combines tentative romance, outward strength, and inner resolve in a faery story of desert and destiny.

I nearly had a full-on freak out when I spotted this in Foyles – I didn’t even know it existed – and I adore Melissa Marr and this gorgeous, seductive, faery world.

I am behind on the Wicked Lovely novels. Last one I read was Fragile Eternity. I have the next two, but. I wasn't so keen on Fragile Eternity, so I've been a little put off. Should pick them up, really. Happy reading!
