The Best Teen Movies EVER

I watch a lot of teen movies. They feel like a good, comfy, contemporary YA novel to me and I watch them over and over and over again. I know lots of them practically by heart and I thought I’d share some of my favourites and why I love them so much.

10 Things I Hate About You
My brother lent me this DVD about eight years ago. I never gave it back. I love everything about it: the characters, the humour, the music, the story, the writing, the truth. At first I thought it wasn’t that popular, then I mentioned it on Twitter once – EXPLOSION OF TWEETS. It’s loved by everyone, this one.

Say Anything
This is the most recent addition to my favourites collection as I only watched it for the first time in my second year of uni. I've never heard a more true tagline either: 'To know Lloyd Dobler is to love Lloyd Dobler. Diane Court is about to know Lloyd Dobler.' PERFECTION.

Easy A
Easy A mixes all of the beauty of 80s teen movies and add a spice of modernism and sass. Olive’s obsession with John Hughes movies is something I understand, as long with her desire to live one.

Grease
A classic. There are few films more loved than this one and I really don’t need to say anything about it. It’s the bad boy/good girl romance, the epic makeover, the crazy dancing, the misunderstanding – it has it all.

Pitch Perfect
Everyone’s fallen in love with this film recently. I’m a huge fan of music and dancing and all that jazz in my movies and this one tops it off with jokes, one-liners and crude gestures that made me guffaw. A proper feel-good, funny film and I do love funny female leads; they don’t pop up in YA novels very often, unfortunately.

Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging
Adaptations of your favourite books are risky business. Though this was very different to the books, the acting was sometimes terrible and things were changed, I love it. Properly, intensely, massively love it. The soundtrack is amazing, the cringing is beautiful and I just love the characters. Perfect.

Juno
Ellen Page steals the screen in this film. The sheer quirky, uniqueness warms the cockles. I love a film with an unconventional couple and characters that don’t fit in. The sense of humour is also perfection. I walked out of the cinema after seeing this with a goofy grin and a snugly heart.

And finally, Dirty Dancing
This is my favourite film of all time. The music makes me grin like a loon; I can recite most of it by heart; Johnny makes me swoon and I just bloody love the dancing. I wish I had had a summer like that at 17.

So there you go, my favourite teen films. All of which I’d read in a heartbeat.

Which films would you love to read the novel versions of? Favourite teen movie?

  5. THEY MADE A MOVIE OUT OF ANGUS THONGS AND PERFECT SNOGGING?!? Why did I not know this?? 10 Things I Hate About you might be my favourite teen movie ever, if we're being honest. Although 16 Candles and Dirty Dancing are close seconds. And also Clueless. Ok so basically if you are a teen movie from the 80s or 90s I love you hahahah
