One of the main reasons I got a Kindle was so that I could read all of the extras stories that featured my favourite characters from my favourite series’. Basically, I didn’t want to miss out and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made in a long time.
Reading novellas and short
stories about Magnus Bane, Caleana Sardothien and Johnny and Meg launched me
back into some of my favourite worlds in bite-sized chunks. Piecing together
events between instalments in series’ and the unknown stories of secondary
characters come to life. They fulfil that desire for your favourite books to
continue after they’ve finished.
But they’re also fantastic for
people who’ve yet to discover these authors and books. An eighty-page snippet
of something for only £1.99 is one of the best way to get a taste of something
without dedicating eight hours and six quid on something you’re not sure about.
You could discover a new love in that short story, have a revelation about a genre
you thought you didn’t like or read an author you never thought you could.
At this moment, I have 36
e-novellas on my Kindle. I have another 15 or so on my wishlist and I see no
sign of me stopping reading them!
Do you use e-novellas to find
new authors or read more from your favourites? Do you read them? What’s your
favourite?

I've only read a couple but I do love them and completely agree that they are a great way to generate interest in the world and extra information on the characters :)
ReplyDeleteI have to say, the only novellas I've read so far are the ones from The Iron Fey, and in some ways, I really do think they add a little something to the story. I plan to get more into them as well when I can since I've been able to get Kindle on my PC too :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE reading novellas but I don't do it enough. The only two series I can think of that I've read the novellas for is the Elemental Series and Throne of Glass series and I loved getting these little snippets of these characters. It is so great!
ReplyDeleteI never thought of it as a good way into someone's writing but you're right! I think novellas are worth their weight in gold, but I also know that they're not accessable to everyone and that's a shame. Maybe one day they will be! :)
