In My Mailbox 98

This meme was started by the fabulous Kristi who was inspired by Alea. Check out their blogs for more information. All summaries are from the book jackets.

I came home for the weekend to find some lovely books waiting for me.

Between – Jessica Warman

‘It’s funny,’ Alex says. ‘I always thought you guys had such simple, perfect lives. Everything seemed so easy for you.’

Elizabeth Valchar is young, beautiful and popular. Everything is right in her expensive, glossy life…until the night of her eighteenth birthday party, on her parent’s yacht. A persistent thumping noise from outside the boat wakes her.

What Liz finds changes everything she thought she knew about her life, her friends, and what lies in-between…

Thank you to Egmont for a pretty finished copy. You can read my review and interview with Jessica.

Playground – 50 Cent

Thirteen-year-old Butterball doesn’t have much going for him. He’s teased about his weight. He wishes he still lived in New York City, where there’s always something happening, even if his dad doesn’t have much time for him.

Still, that’s not why he beat up Maurice on the playground.

Now his school is forcing him to talk to some out-of-touch lady therapist, as though she could ever fix him – as though she could ever figure out the truth. No, Butterball’s lips are sealed about what happened that day.

But some tales cant help being told. And this is one of them.

This idea of 50 Cent writing a novel makes my brain explode, but thanks Quercus.

Pure – Julianna Baggot (ARC)

After the detonations, the world is divided in two: the Pures and the Wretches. Those who were not selected to live a life inside the dome felt  the full force of the detonations – fused to whatever they were closest to – they cut a shocking image. Birds are fused to backs, groups of people fused together to create ‘Groupies’ and Pressia, holding a doll, now has a dolls head for a hand.

Pressia Belze has lived outside the Dome ever since the detonations. Struggling for survival she dreams of life inside the Dome with the ‘Pure’. Partridge, himself a Pure, knows that life inside the Dome, under the strict control of the leaders’ regime, isn’t as perfect as others think. Bound by a history that neither can clearly remember, Pressia and Partridge are destined to forge a new world.

So. Damn. Excited. Thank you, Headline!!

Devoted – Hilary Duff

When love is lost but never forgotten…

Clea Raymond found her soulmate in the mysterious and handsome Sage, discovering that they have loved each other through many past lives, all of which ended tragically. Clea wants nothing more than to be with her true love. But there are dark forces in the world who want to destroy Sage and the elixir that makes him immortal.

Sage has been taken, yet Clea is certain he is still alive and will stop at nothing to find him. Together with her friend Ben, she enters into an uneasy alliance with Cursed Vengeance, and ancient faction that can help lead them to Sage. But Clea must get to Sage before Cursed Vengeance does, or risk his death at their hands. And with Ben’s role in Sage’s kidnapping – and their past lives – Clea questions whether he can be counted on at all, and if she’s really saving Sage…or just leading them to repeat their disastrous pasts all over again.

Devoted is the thrilling continuation of the heart-pounding series that began the New York Times bestseller Elixir.

I haven’t read Elixir, but thanks S&S!

Heroes of Olympus: The Son of Neptune – Rick Riordan

This crazy messed-up world of gods and monsters is Percy Jackson’s reality, which pretty much suck for him.

Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon, God of the Sea, has woken from a very deep sleep and come face to face with two snake-haired ladies who refuse to die.

But they’re the least of his problems. Because Percy finds himself at a camp for half-bloods which doesn’t ring any bells for him. There’s just one name he remembers from his past: Annabeth.

Only one thing is certain – Percy’s questing days aren’t over. He and fellow demigods Frank and Hazel must face the most important quest of all: the Prophecy of Seven. If they fail, it’s not just their camp at risk. Percy’s old life, the gods and the entire world might be destroyed…

I really do need to read some Percy Jackson. Thanks, Puffin!

Silence – Becca Fitzpatrick

The noise between Patch and Nora is gone. They’ve overcome the secrets riddled in Patch’s past, bridged two irreconcilable worlds and faced heart-wrenching tests of betrayal, loyalty and trust – all for a love that will transcend the boundary between heaven and earth. Armed with nothing but their absolute faith in one another, Patch and Nora enter a desperate fight to stop a villain who holds the power to shatter everything they’ve worked for – and their love – forever.

I don’t think I have to say anything at all about this, do I? Thanks, S&S!

Goliath – Scott Westerfeld

Alek and Deryn are aboard the Leviathan when the ship is ordered to pick up an unusual passenger: Tesla, a brilliant inventor who claims to have a weapon called Goliath that could end the war. But whose side is he really on? Meanwhile, Alek has discovered Deryn’s secret. Not only that she is a girl in disguise, but that she has feelings for him. Now the crown, true love with a commoner, and the destruction of a great city all hang on Alek’s next – and final – move.

The heart-stopping conclusion to the Leviathan trilogy, from the bestselling author of Uglies.

I love Scott Westerfeld! Thanks again, S&S!

I also got Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Millions by Frank Boyce Cotterill and Vathek and Other Stories by William Beckford for university.
