Letterbox Love #128

Letterbox Love is a way to give all of the books I receive for review some exposure. Summaries are taken from the cover, or Amazon/NetGalley/Goodreads in the case of e-books, unless otherwise stated. All of the books are in exchange for an honest review.

Tell Us Something True, Dana Reinhardt (proof)

Seventeen-year-old River doesn’t know what to do with himself when Penny, the girl is adores, dumps him. He lives in LA, where nobody walks anywhere, and Penny was hide ride; he never bothered getting a license. He's desperate. He’s lonely.

One afternoon he does the unthinkable – he starts walking, and stumbles on a support group for teens with addictions. He fakes his way into the meetings and begins to connect with the other kids, but when he finds himself falling for one of the girls in the group a delightful comedy of errors ensues. River wants to tell the truth, but he can’t stop lying, and his tangle of deception may unravel before he learns how to handle the most potent drug of all: true love.

I loved one of Dana Reinhardt’s books so I’m super excited for this. Thanks Rock the Boat!

Leave Me, Gayle Forman (e-proof)

For every woman who has ever dreamed of driving past her exit on the highway instead of going home to make dinner, for every woman who has ever dreamed of boarding a train to a place where no one needs constant attention – meet Maribeth Klein, a harried working mother who’s so busy taking care of her husband and twins she doesn’t even realise she's had a heart attack.

Afterward, surprised to discover that her recuperation seems to be an imposition on those that rely on her, Maribeth does the unthinkable: she pack a bag and leaves. But, as is so often the case, once she gets to where she's going, she sees her life from a different perspective. Far from the demands of family and career and with the help of liberating new friendships, Maribeth is finally able to own up to secrets she has been keeping from those she loves, and herself.

Yay, new Gayle Forman! I’m really intrigued to see how she handles an adult novel. Thanks NetGalley and Alonquin Books!

The Exclusives, Rebecca Thornton (paperback)

1996
Freya Seymour and Josephine Grey are invincible – beautiful and brilliant, the two best friends are on the cusp of Oxbridge, and the success they always dreamed they’d share.

2014
Freya gets in touch, looking for a conversation Josephine has run away from for eighteen long and tortured years.

Beginning with one ill-fated night, The Exclusives charts the agonising spiral of friendship gone wrong, the heartache and betrayal of letting down those closest to you and the poisonous possibilities of what we wouldn’t do when everything we prize is placed under threat.

This was pitched to me as Mean Girls/Prep/The Secret History and I just couldn’t say not to that. Thanks Twenty 7 Books!
