The art of spoken word, or performance poetry, was something that I’d never heard of until one of the Thursday night creative writing events I had during my first year of university.
Though I’m not a huge fan of
reading poetry, I love having it read to me (my old housemate loved the stuff
and used to read poems aloud to be constantly – bliss!), and spoken word is
poetry written for the purpose of being read aloud.
I’ve come across it now and
then since uni, but it’s still something that I don’t think is that widely
known about so when I was doing my monthly re-watch of Mark Grist’s ‘Date a
Girl Who Reads’ I thought I’d share some of my favourite spoken word pieces with
you guys and hopefully get you to change your mind about poetry as well.
