I thoroughly loved Liz’s debut,
Banished, so I had high hopes for Vowed. They were met with bells on!
With Thorn taking up his part
in the prophecy and becoming the guardian of the Otherwhere, I was really worried
that we wouldn’t see enough of him in Vowed.
And though he wasn’t in the novel as much as I would have liked, he didn’t
disappear all together. And you know what, it made it all the more tantalising when they did share page time. I loved that Kit was able to get her fix of the Fae
Prince through her dreams - when she eventually got some sleep, that is! I’m
hoping for a bit more of them together in Judged following
the ending of this one, however.
In Thorn’s absence Liz threw in
some more complex, not-all-he-seems eye candy in the form of Dante. My opinion
of Dante went all over the place. I couldn’t decide if I trusted him and what
was just slightly off about him. I ended
up really liking him. The way him and Kit interacted was refreshing and, like
with Kit and Aiden, I love seeing non-romantic friendships between guys and
girls in YA. They rarely happen without a romantic endgame. GO LIZ.
Kit, Dante and Aiden’s quest to
uncover the mystery of the missing kids leads them all over London. Seeing my
favourite (and hopefully one day home city) makes me incredibly happy. All of
the places that are surprisingly familiar and others I can evoke an image of so
clearly is just excellent, you know. And getting to explore London with Kit on
a motorbike makes it even better. I’d love to join her. In fact, I’d happily do
anything with Kit – I want to be her friend, even though it’d probably get me
killed or at least seriously hurt. Worth it; she’s awesome. I dragged out
reading Vowed for nearly a week so I wouldn’t
have to wait goodness knows how long to see her again in Judged.
I was expecting a horrific
cliffhanger from this, but thankfully, there wasn’t one. Just a promise of an
even more rip-roaring adventure with Kit, Aiden, Dante and Thorn in the next
instalment. Can I have it now, please?
