Letterbox Love #39

Letterbox Love came about after some drama with the American book haul memes, so the UKYA bloggers came together on Twitter to organise one of our own. Summaries are taken from the cover, or Amazon/NetGalley/Goodreads in the case of e-books, unless otherwise stated. Hosted by Narratively Speaking.

For review:

The Forever Song, Julie Kagawa (e-proof)

Vengeance will be hers

Allison Sekemoto once struggled with the question: human or monster?

With the death of her love, Zeke, she has her answer.

Monster.

Allie will embrace her cold vampire side to hunt down and end Sarren, the psychopathic vampire who murdered Zeke. But the trail is bloody and long, and Sarren has left many surprises for Allie and her companions – her creator, Kanin, and her blood brother, Jackal. The trail is leading straight to the one place they must protect at any cost – the last vampire-free zone on Earth, Eden. And Sarren has one final, brutal shock in store for Allie.

In  ruined world where no life is sacred and former allies can turn on you in one heartbeat, Allie will face her darkest days. And if she succeeds, triumph is short-lived in the face of surviving forever alone.

I haven’t read book two yet and I actually have the US hardback pre-ordered, but I plan to marathon the last two books soon in a bid to finish off some series’! thanks Harlequin Teen and NetGalley!

White Hot Kiss, Jennifer L Armentrout (e-proof)

One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she’s anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among Wardens – a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons  and keeping humanity safe – Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding are own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she’s crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth – a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she’s not sure she wants to – especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn’t an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she’s the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne...it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could becomea one-way ticket to the end of the world.

Gargoyles crossed with demons? I’m officially intrigued. Thanks NetGalley and Mira INK!

Breaking Butterflies, M Anjelais (paperback)

After he killed the butterfly, I knew there was something wrong. Something about his eyes. They had been burning, shining bright and so cold, like sun reflecting on an icy landscape. Everyone loved those eyes, people were always saying how beautiful they were, how unusual. How completely out of the ordinary.

It was the first time in my life that I realized something could be so unusual that it was broken, so extraordinary that something was wrong with it.

But I couldn’t leave him.

Gah, I’m ridiculously excited about this!! Also, gorgeous cover. Thanks so much Chicken House!

Love Letters to the Dead, Ava Dellaira (paperback)

Sometimes the best letters go unanswered.

It begins as an assignment for English class: write a letter to a dead person. Laurel chooses Kurt Cobain – he died young, and so did Laurel’s sister May – so maybe he’ll understand what laurel is going through.

Soon Laurel is writing letters to lots of dead people – Janis Joplin, Heath Ledger, River Phoenix, Amelia Earhart, Amy Winehouse... It’s like she can’t stop. She writes about her new high school, her new friends, her write love – and her shattered life.

But the ghosts of Laurel’s past can’t be contained between the lines of a page forever. She must facec up to them – before they consume her.

*happy dances* This is one of my most anticipated books of this year and the amazing Faye of A Daydreamer’s Thoughts picked up a copy for me at the Hot Key Blogger’s event last week. THANK YOU!

Bought:

I seem to have found a new favourite author as this week I bought four books by Jennifer L Armentrout. I don’t want to write up summaries as they’re ahead of me in there series, so here are the titles instead:

Onyx (A Lux Novel, 2)
Opal (A Lux Novel, 3)
Origin (A Lux Novel, 4)
Bitter Sweet Love (The Dark Elements 1)

I’ve become surprisingly enamoured of this author! Look out for a Lux series-a-thon review later in the year.
