Other Title in this Series: The Hunger Games, Catching Fire

From Goodreads: Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has survived the Hunger Games twice. But now that she's made it out of the bloody arena alive, she's still not safe. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge...This thrilling final instalment of this ground-breaking trilogy promises to be one of the most talked-about books of the year.

Mockingjay is the book that, for a year, the YA world has been waiting for with bated breath. And it blew me away.

A lot was hanging on this book. Will it live up to the first two extraordinary books? Will Katniss defeat the Capitol? And, most importantly, who will she choose, Gale or Peeta? While some people have been disappointed, it far surpassed my very high expectations. I was being shocked, surprised and horrified time and time again. Suzanne Collins really knows how to keep her readers on edge.

We saw new sides to the characters I’ve grown to know and love. Katniss seemed to loose her fight. It literally caused me pain to see her so fragile, damaged and broken. The trials of The Hunger Games and Catching Fire really took their toll and so when she pulled herself together to fight, it was even more impressive and my admiration for Katniss went through the roof. Gale just strengthened my Team Peeta resolve and Peeta himself broke my heart repeatedly.

Suzanne Collins stayed true to her world and characters and all that’s left to say is: wow, wow, wow.

  1. *spoilers?

See as someone who was team Gale (not necessarily as in he should end up with Katniss, but I was personally more attracted to his character) I think what she did with him was kind of a cop out. And I hate that he just disappeared from the story and Katniss' life. He wouldn't have given up that easily.

  2. spoilers: I agree with Aubrey!
Gale's ending was just like.. whaaa. Just like that? And I wasn't even Team Gale.. Great review.

  3. I too was a rooting for Gale and felt that his part in the book was not true to the character I had come to know in Hunger Games. I am still shifting through my feelings about the book, and while I still love the series, Hunger Games will always be my favorite while Mockingjay will probably end up being my least favorite.

  4. I have to agree with the commenters. I'm kind of relieved to hear I'm not the only one who felt this way. To me, it's like the character of Gale was changed / worsened to make the resolution easier.

However, I'm glad to hear you loved it! And I totally agree with you about being kept on edge. Especially the last section... awesome action scenes.
