It happened like this.
I was stolen from an airport. Taken from everything I knew, everything I was used to. Taken to sand and heat, dirt and danger. And he expected me to love him. This is my story.
A letter from nowhere.
I’ve never read anything like Stolen before, and I don’t think I’ll get to again. Lucy Christopher has written a stunning debut that will capture the imaginations of everyone who reads it.
it’s hard to put into words how much I loved Stolen. it was captivating, compelling and utterly compulsive. Gemma’s voice drew me into her world and her story from the very first page. Even after I finished Stolen I couldn’t stop thinking about, I even lay awake thinking about it.
Lots of elements of Stolen were new to me. It was written in second person which I’ve never read before. This increased the sense of intimacy as Gemma was writing to her captor, Ty, telling him her side of their story. The sparse, beautiful landscape of the Australian Great Sandy Desert was also new to me. I loved how there was so much life hidden in that desert, along with it’s complete isolation and Gemma and Ty’s connection to the land. In all it’s harsh reality it was still magical, especially with the inclusions of the legends of the Aborigine’s that Ty told Gemma.
Ty is one of the most difficult characters I’ve read about in a long time. I hated him at first and I was constantly wishing him to let Gemma go. But then I began to get to know him as his story unfolded. He is a sympathetic character and sometimes very vulnerable but also frightening with the power he holds. My head and my heart were fighting in their opinions of him so much that I still can’t make up my mind writing this nearly two days later. But saying that, my favourite scene in the book centred around him - during and just after the reveal of Ty’s painting shed. It’s a stunning scene that will stay with me for a very long time. Those who’ve read this probably know exactly what scene I mean, but those who haven’t, I’m not going to tell you, you’ll have to read it for yourself!
I can’t wait to see how Lucy Christopher will follow Stolen, but I can’t wait to find out!

I've read this book and I thought it was amazing!! I couldn't put it down, I stayed up until gone midnight just to finish it!!!
ReplyDeletei loved this book, it was so moving, i cried, i felt anger. i didnt want it to end. i hope that a movie comes out, not that it will do any justice to the imagination. i couldnt stop reading it, and as i got to the last few pages, i wished that it would never stop, or that there would be a sequel.
ReplyDeletei have never read such a moving book, nor has a book made me feel the emotions i am feeling right now.
thank you lucy christopher for writing this book
Just finished reading the book and cant stop thinking about it.. there seriously needs to be a sequel... maby from Ty's side..
ReplyDeleteIts not the best book iv ever read,...
ReplyDeletebut it would make a grt movie :)
Stolen was an amazing book. You could really imagine the landscape and what it was like being there. In a way I didn't want the book to finish the way it did. I wanted her to be kept there for longer however it was a good twist to it. I wanted to know what happened to Ty and now I've finished reading the book I feel somewhat saddened that the story and what was happening has now finished.
ReplyDeleteI really do hope there is another book to continue after this one.
reading the comments above it think it would be an amazing idea for Ty to write a letter to Gemma of why he did it etc.
ReplyDeletethat was make an AWESOME book.
she should serisouly think about that!
This was suchh a good book, i've never been so intrested in a book so badly. I really wanted to cry at the end though :( but the book is great!
ReplyDeletei thought stolen was absolutely amazing, read it in one day ,that s how mesmerized i was with it,its so different from anything that i read before ,it simply took my breath away.althoug all my instincts screamed to hate ty ,against all odds i found my self liking him,he had his own demons to deal with, but he never hurt or abused gemma, and i think he truly loved her and made the ultimate sacrifice in letting her go,but i must admit that i wish the ending was different ,unless there is a sequel and a promise of a happy ending!
ReplyDeletethis book is amazing! i couldn't stop reading it! and wanted there to be more and more and more(:
ReplyDeleteI just finnished reding this book today and i cant stop thinking about it. It was very well written and i couldnt put it down. I want to read more.

ReplyDeleteIts me again that is the best book i have eva read you are the best author your books are the best that is the 2 book i have read and it was the best better then anything in the world
ReplyDeleteI personally picked this book up thinking it was something completely different. I wanted to stop reading it because it's not the kind of book I like, but it was so interesting and couldn't put it down. I do wish the ending was different, that Gemma and Ty would end up together. :) But them not ending up together left me with sadness, but love for this book. It is a great book, and there better be a sequel with a happy ending. ( Gemma and Ty ending up together, happy and in love.)
ReplyDeletethis was a really great book! my friend turned me onto it and that night i stayed up late (1:30 am) to finish it!! there should be a sequel were they end up together, like where ty makes a daring escape from jail to find gemma, or something like that. mabey involving the return of the camel? that would be nice too. but what we really just want to
ReplyDelete^see them together ^
ReplyDeleteamazing book am not a big reader but could not stop reading this one.A second book would be ace with ty and gemma ending up together i felt so many emotions at the end of the book really sad it was finished, i see am not the only one now tho..lol cant help but feel for ty after all the effort he has made.just an amazing book!
ReplyDeletei loved this book soo much i read it in 2 days i felt soooo sorry 4 ty and at the same time i hated him!!! arghh
ReplyDeletethere should defenetely be a sequel!
and hopefully a movie
it's a book you CANT make a sequel for.
ReplyDeleteYou Have to make this a Film!! its absaloutly brilliant and i love your work. I want to be a writter and you have inspired me in many ways! thanks :)

ReplyDeleteAnd I hope you can come to our school its afnorth international it's in the Netherlands and I think that if you could come to our school I think that it would be a good idea to give us some pointers a out how to write a good novel one like stolen I think that you should ask if you could give some pointers to the seventh graders because that's the grade I am in. Thank you and if you can't make it it's okay
