Not alive. Not dead. Somewhere in between lie the Beautiful Dead.

The first of four books that will leave you restless...

Something strange is happening at Ellerton High. Jonas, Arizona, Summer, Phoenix. All dead within a year.

Darina, Phoenix's grief-stricken girlfriend, is on the verge. She can't escape her intense heartache, or the impossible apparitions of those who are meant to be dead.

And all the while the sound of beating wings echo inside her head...

Will love conquer death? And if it does, can Darina set it free?

I really liked this book. It was a great start to a series of books that I think are going to be great. There were lots of really clever ideas that we've never seen before. I did haev a couple of problems with it though. Darina's voice was very desperate and the tone of it fluctuated throughout the novel; although that might have been intended becasue of what she goes through and secondly, I couldn't figure out whether it was set in England or America. I know it's odd but that really bothered me for some reason.

Overall, I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of the series and I think it's going to be a good one.

  1. I wondered where it was set too, and I THINK it's America. Glad you enjoyed it!

  2. I just read it tonight and was also questioning where it was set...it stated near the beginning that they were in the states, but the spelling of 'tyre' and the use of 'riding pillion' made me wonder if the author is from the UK.

I really enjoyed the book. Can't wait to read the ones to follow.

  3. I was questioning this too and I've managed to find an answer.
Eden Maguire is from the UK, but she lives part time in America and her book series Beautiful Dead is set in America. She set it in America because of an abandoned farmstead she found near Denver, CO. She thought it was the perfect setting for Beautiful Dead.
